Warner Bros. has officially rung the bell on
Grudge Match and
Robert De Niro and
Sylvester Stallone are to square off in a new boxing movie.
Furthermore, the studio has set comedian
Kevin Hart (The 40 Year Old Virgin) to play the fight promoter who gets two retired brawlers back in the ring.
The story revolves around retired boxers Billy ‘The Kid' McGuigan (De Niro) and Henry ‘Razor' Sharp (Stallone), lifelong bitter rivals who are coaxed out of retirement and into the ring for one final grudge match – 50 years after their last title fight.
The film will be directed by
Peter Segal (Tommy Boy) based on a screenplay by Entourage creator
Doug Ellin.
Stallone is set to appear again with Arnold Schwarzenegger in a new actioner called The Tomb, while De Niro has several films coming up, including this fall's buzzy Oscar contender The Silver Linings Playbook and Killing Season.
