So, if
Doug Liman can't get
Brad Pitt to star in his upcoming
We Are Mortals project, then
Tom Cruise is the next best thing?
Nothing against Cruise, after all I'm glad he's so busy guy these days, but, is he back for good? Let's see: we have Cruise in
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol which opens on December 21, we have Cruise in Rock of Ages which opens on June 1, 2012.
And just in case you're worried for 2013, we also have Cruise on board for
One Shot and
Horizons as well. So, yes, he's back for good!
We Are Mortals, previously known as
All You Need Is Kill is the sci-fi war thriller based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's novel of the same name. It centers on a young Army recruit who, despite being killed in the first day of intergalactic alien invasion of Earth, is continually resurrected Groundhog Day–style to the day before he was killed.
If you're interested in even more details about the whole thing, here's a description of Sakurazaka's novel:
“There's one thing worse than dying. It's coming back to do it again and again… When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again.
On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the Bitch of War. Is the Bitch the key to Keiji's escape, or to his final death?”
Any thoughts about this?
