Thierry Fremaux Says No Leak At Cannes Film Festival
Well, it seems that the April Fool's Day was 'employed' even in somewhat more serious and official areas of industry – from Cameron directing Prometheus 2 to Daniel Craig skydiving to open London Olympics ceremony, fake news were spreading out like virus, and not even the Cannes Film Festival was spared.
Unbelievable but… According to the Blogue du Festival Du Cannes, organizers of the Cannes festival had accidentally put the entire lineup on their website over the entire weekend, before they hastily pulled it down again.
Semi-plausible list included many titles that have been discussed over the past few months as prime contenders, including In Another Country, Cosmopolis, Lawrence Anyways, Rust And Bone, along with some of the ‘left field' ones (The Master, Stoker).
Head of the Cannes, Thierry Fremaux, stated in interview with Deadline that “there is no leak, since the list itself is not completed, and it only exists in my head”, insisting all the while that “the Cannes Film festival is an institution and must be preserved as such, by respecting its code of conduct”.
Wild Bunch executive, Vincent Maraval, who represents some of the contending movies, emphasized that a couple of films mentioned haven't even been seen by Fremaux.
Knowing that there is no better kept secret in the movie world than the Cannes lineup, we can only wait for the official press conference on April 19th and only hope for some of the “fakes” to make it through selection screenings to the end of the journey to Cannes.
