As we
previously reported,
Therese is an adaption of the
François Mauriac novel of the same name, first published in 1927. Unfortunately, it's the last work of director
Claude Miller, who died in April 2012.

The story, set in France (late 1920) revolves around a woman named Thérèse, who marries her charming and free spirited neighbor Bernard Desqueyroux, and together they join their properties forming a vast estate.
The rest of the plot goes like this:
Bernard has a forceful personality, but she is still fascinated by this young man and his opinions. However, she is quickly stifled by the tedium of provincial life and the intellectual mediocrity of her husband. She dreams of Paris, longing for stimulation and culture, and despite herself, starts looking for a way to escape. Until the day Bernard almost poisons himself with arsenic. What starts as an accident quickly turns into an attempt at poisoning. Thérèse is discovered and disgraced in her own family, as well as that of her husband.

Beside
Audrey Tautou who plays Thérèse Desqueyroux and
Gilles Lellouche who stars as her husband Bernard Desqueyroux, the rest of the cast also includes
Anaïs Demoustier,
Catherine Arditi,
Isabelle Sadoyan,
Stanley Weber and
Francis Perrin.

Thérèse is set to hit limited theaters on August 23rd, 2013.
