The plot of
The Hangover Part III has been jealously kept hidden away since day one. All we've really known is that it wouldn't follow the blackout pattern of the last two films.
“It's certainly not in the same template that you've seen for these movies,” director
Todd Philips said last year. “The third would be very much a finale and an ending. The most I could say about it…is that it is not following that template but very much a new idea.”
A vague plot synopsis released earlier this year hints at a road trip scenario, but nothing else of importance.
Now some details are out in the open, thanks to Philips himself:
” ‘The Hangover Part III' is Alan's story,” Phillips told Entertainment Weekly about Zach Galifianakis‘ character. “He's going through a crisis after the death of his father, [and] the Wolfpack is all he has.”
EW also teases with a few other lines, saying the third film “brings the group together when something from the first movie comes back to haunt them.”
So this might mean that
Mike Epps or
Heather Graham are both reprising their roles after not taking part in The Hangover Part II. As for
Ken Jeong‘s Mr. Chow?
“He's darker than ever,” Philips said, adding that the movie is “a fitting end to this three-part opera of mayhem and bad decisions.”
The magazine has also provided two first-look images of the cast, Galifianakis,
Bradley Cooper,
Ed Helms,
Justin Bartha, and Jeong. Take a look:

Also starring
John Goodman,
Jeffrey Tambor and
Melissa McCarthy, The Hangover Part III is set to hit the theaters on May 24th, 2013.
