Steven Spielberg is back! His next project will be directing movie titled
War Horse, a World War I novel written by
Michael Morpurgo.
Dreamworks is set to release the film August 10, 2011. And, yes, looks like this means Spielberg will be putting a number of other projects on hold, including a rumored Abraham Lincoln biopic…
So, the film tells the tale of a friendship between a boy and a horse which is taken away to fight in World War I.
This is how the story sounds: “At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land.
But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to the trenches to find him and bring him home.”
Like we said,
War Horse was originally a novel by Michael Morpurgo, later adapted into a play which is currently running at the New London Theatre and it is scheduled to begin playing in New York in 2011.
The film adaptation will be released on August 10th, 2011., and at this moment we know that screenwriters
Lee Hall and
Richard Curtis are adapting the book and play for the big screen.
Spielberg is producing with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Revel Guest. And looks that he's very excited about this new project, since he said:
“From the moment I read Michael Morpurgo's novel War Horse I knew this was a film I wanted DreamWorks to make. Its heart and its message provide a story that can be felt in every country.”
Three-time Oscar winner Spielberg has a number of projects coming up, including
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn starring Daniel Craig and Simon Pegg, and sci-fi movie
Interstellar.
Well, we have no doubt in Spielberg's work, and we're happy to hear that this kind of story will soon have a chance to be released. Stay tuned, we'll keep an eye on this project, and with every new information, we'll be right here!
