Seems like
Steven Spielberg is shopping around a script entitled
Jackie, and as you can guess, it's about the late First Lady
Jackie Kennedy Onassis, wife of President
John F. Kennedy.
Ok, we all know that the lives of the entire Kennedy family have been very interesting to a lot of directors out there, but this time, with Spielberg's name involved, looks like something completely new is on the way…
So, the script comes from journalist, author and former
Today Show producer
Noah Oppenheim and focuses on the days immediately following the assassination of JFK from her point of view.
Although Spielberg is just on board as a producer at this point, he is attracting a familiar buyer.
HBO is at the head of the line to purchase the script and they would likely turn it into a film for the network. And, since we all know that Spielberg has a long history with them, and recently launched the
The Pacific, serving as an executive producer, no wonder he's the one to produce the whole new project.
On the other hand, guys at HBO are more than interested in the whole Kennedy-thing, and, if you remember, they already had big success with
Grey Gardens, a biography of Jackie Kennedy's Bouvier relatives “Big Edie” and “Little Edie” Bouvier Beale, which was nominated for 17 Emmy Awards and won two Golden Globes.
That is impressive indeed, and maybe this time they could even have more success, since one of the best directors is on their team.
Who knows, maybe some interesting, new story is coming. We'll have to wait and see, but we're more than sure that this mix of HBO, Jackie and Spielberg is definitely a good start. Looking forward to see it!
