Stephen Colbert, a former correspondent for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and the host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, will have a cameo appearance in either
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug or
The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
However, Colbert's cameo will not come in
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, according to the
THR source.
Colbert teased about his appearance in the November issue of
Playboy:
Peter Jackson invited me to the set last year,” he said. “I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I'm a big fan of the films.
When asked if he was going to be in the movie, Colbert smiled and responded, ‘Could be.'
No word on which role will play Colbert who provides humorous commentary on the big issues going on in the United States and the rest of the world, with his larger then life ego and overly patriotic spirit.
An Unexpected Journey kicks off the trilogy on December 14th, 2012.
As for Colbert, he recently released his third book, America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't.
