Well hallelujah, here's a first trailer online for
Red Hook Summer, a new film by
Spike Lee that's set to hit theaters on August 10th, 2012 in limited release.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and already had a following because of the return of character Mookie from often heralded as the pinnacle film of Lee's career, Do the Right Thing.
The new film tells the story of Flik Royale (
Jules Brown), a young boy from middle-class Atlanta, wearing a sullen expression, who has come to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, a local Bishop Enoch Rouse (
Clarke Peters), in the housing projects of Red Hook.
Having never met before, things quickly get off on the wrong foot as Bishop Enoch relentlessly attempts to convert Flik into a follower of Jesus Christ. Flik's summer appears to be a total disaster until he meets Chazz Morningstar (Toni Lysaith), a pretty girl his age, who shows Flik the brighter side of Brooklyn.
Lee also writes this most recent installment in his Chronicles of Brooklyn which includes She's Gotta Have It, Do the Right Thing, Crookyln, Clocker and He Got Game, and co-stars
Nate Parker, James Ransone, and
Thomas Jefferson Byrd.
Now you can test the waters by watching the trailer after the jump.
