Warner Brothers has finally announced a release date for
Sherlock Holmes 2.
The sequel to Warners' hit Sherlock Holmes re-imagining will hit theaters on December 16, 2011. Bookmark that day guys, because this is not the end of WB news!
Warner Bros. is “nearing” a greenlight for The Flash part of a long list of films in development that will feature Wonder Woman, Aquaman and characters from Mad magazine. What a year!
So, at this moment we know that
Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and
Rachel McAdams will all return. Robert Downey Jr. will be back as the titular detective, and Jude Law as his loyal Watson.
But when Hollywood super producer Joel Silver was asked whether or not Rachel McAdams would be returning, he simply responded: “She'll be present”, which probably means that McAdams will not be the female lead in the sequel. Regarding the villain, Moriarty will take center stage.
The first Sherlock Holmes movie was released during Christmas of last year and went on to gross over $516 million in worldwide box office. The film was developed for $90 million.
Sherlock Holmes 2 is expected to begin filming late this summer, reteaming director
Guy Ritchie with already mentioned cast from the first part of Holmes adventures.
But, while we're still at Warner Bros plans, let's just mention that the third Christopher Nolan-helmed
Batman movie is scheduled for a July 2012 release, and the studio is planning on a 2012 holiday season release for a new
Superman movie.
Other major releases are expected to include
Red Riding Hood on April 22, 2011,
The Hangover 2 on May 26th that year, the 3D superhero film
Green Lantern on June 17th,
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (also 3D) on July 15th, the New Line/Walden Media
Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 (also 3D) on September 23rd,
Happy Feet 2 (also 3D, you may be noticing a trend) on November 18th and
New Year's Eve on December 9th 2010.
Definitely something worth keeping an eye on, so make sure you stay tuned!
