Frequent Tarantino collaborator
Samuel L. Jackson is now joining the cast of MGM's
RoboCop reboot, which begins production this September in Toronto.
Jackson will reteam with the recently-announced
Gary Oldman in Elite Squad director
Jose Padilha‘s upcoming remake.
While Oldman plays a scientist who creates the titular cyborg creation from the body of gunned-down cop Alex Murphy (
Joel Kinnaman), The Pulp Fiction and Avengers star is playing a ‘charismatic TV mogul' named Pat Novak who is ‘a powerful force in the Robocop world.'
As you know, the story follows a cop who — on the edge of death — is turned into a cyborg police officer.
I think it's safe to assume that Padilha's version will differ quite a bit from the original Paul Verhoeven film.
MGM is planning a release date sometime in the summer of 2013.
As for Jackson, he will be in Django Unchained as well, playing a house slave that works for Leonardo DiCaprio.
Stay tuned.
