Unless they're assured that nothing entertaining is going to happen on the red carpet, the Academy is not admitting Sacha Baron Cohen to the show.Let me refresh your memory, in 2006 Cohen arrived at the TIFF dressed up as his fictional TV journalist character Borat in a cart pulled by women dressed as Kazakhstani peasants and in 2009 the actor came to the MTV Music Video Awards as an Austrian gay Fashionista named Bruno, to promote his movie of the same name. The comic was/is set to appear at the Oscars as part of the Hugo crew (nominated for Best Picture), as he co-stars as The Station Inspector. In fact, he plays the inspector who, in one scene, rather memorably shares a bath with his Doberman. Both Hugo and The Dictator are distributed by Paramount, but ‘the show's producers have not been informed of any Cohen plans.' The Academy only recently permitted ads to air for movies during commercial breaks. Keeping this in mind, Cohen's intentions are being carefully examined. Tune in this Sunday night to see if Cohen actually shows up.
