Robert Downey Jr will give his voice to the new DreamWorks Animation 3D adventure
Mr. Peabody and Sherman, depicting the mastermind talking dog,
Mr. Peabody.
The movie will be based on characters from
Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends, with Mr. Peabody and his favorite
Sherman using The WABAC Machine, passing through time travel and discover new things about historical people.
Rob Minkoff (most recently of
The Forbidden Kingdom but also of
Stuart Little and the
Haunted Mansion) will direct
Jeffrey Ventimilia and
Joshua Sternin script. Here's what Rob Minkoff had to say about Mr. Peabody
Mr. Peabody is this genetic anomaly. He does have brothers and sisters, all of them non-speaking, no super-smart dogs. He's an outcast, but has overcome it by being so great at so many things.
Strange Minkoff is already admitting that kids these days have no idea who Peabody and Sherman are
Certainly for Boomers, they're in the sweet spot of our childhood animation memories, but beyond there it gets a little bit, well, not quite as familiar.
It's hard to deny that Downey Jr. has almost the perfect voice for an overly smart dog. And it would be penned by renowned writers who wrote for the
The Simpsons,
That '70s Show, and adapted the recent feature version of
Yogi Bear.. By the time Peabody and Sherman hits theaters in 2014.

Minkoff said the studio considered making a mixture of animation and live-action coupled, but chose instead the way of making fully computer animation – a powerful all-in-one integrated 3D creation. Let's wait a little longer then we'll see.
