Rob Zombie will be sitting in the director's seat for
The Lords of Salem, and a planed date to begin shooting is early this spring.
This is the third title from the Haunted Movies banner (the first, a house thriller
Insidious will be released this April and the second one is a still shooting Sci-fi
The Bay), a partnership between the U.K.'s Alliance Films and Paranormal Activity producers Jason Blum,
Oren Peli and Steven Schneider. Announcement lined up for the European Film Market in Berlin.
The thriller takes place in a present-day Salem, Massachusetts, where the residents are disturbed by a satanic gathering of 300-year old witches. Zombie will write the script while on his upcoming concert tour, and will film next year. He originally marked the Salem several years ago, but started again when he changed his plan to direct a remake of
The Blob. He made the deal with Haunted Films because he liked the autonomy.
What excited me most was Jason saying, you can have total control over the script, casting and final cut. I said I'm in.”
Zombie reportedly said he changed his plans to bring back the horror Sci-fi The Blob cause after directing two movies inspired by the 1978
John Carpenter fright classic
Halloween, he couldn't bear playing the comparison game again.
However, I hope that it'll ultimately become a highly entertaining movie. As you know Zombie has also written and directed
House of 1,000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, and the two Halloween remakes. Zombie's partner Andy Gould will produce alongside Blum, Peli and Schneider.
Wait for upcoming news.
