The new adaptation, directed by Andrew Ahn, will feature a screenplay co-written by Ahn and James Schamus, who previously collaborated with Lee on the original film and the groundbreaking “Brokeback Mountain.” The story follows Min, whose romantic life takes an unexpected turn when her boyfriend Chris declines her marriage proposal. In an attempt to secure a green card, Min persuades Chris to marry her best friend Angela instead, but their plan begins to unravel when Min's grandmother unexpectedly arrives from Seoul to celebrate their Korean wedding banquet.
Ang Lee, the acclaimed director of the original film, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “It warms my heart to see how my film from so many years ago has inspired a new generation to reimagine a new and different version. I look forward to seeing what Andrew Ahn and his wonderful cast create.”
The talented cast includes Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone, “SNL” mainstay Bowen Yang, Kelly Marie Tran, Oscar winner Yuh-jung Youn, and Joan Chen, promising a fresh and captivating take on the beloved classic.
