If you were wondering what happened to the remake of Bill Lustig's
Maniac, well, IFC Midnight continues to release awesome trailers and it turns out that they will release re-imagining of 1980 slasher flick some time next year.
Written by
Alexandre Aja and
Gregory Levasseur, director
Franck Khalfoun's horror thriller Maniac stars The Hobbit's
Elijah Wood as a serial killer. New NSFW international trailer main focus is the Frank's POV angle, suggesting that Wood's character has done irreparable damage to his psyche.
The Cinefamily in Los Angeles recently held a special screening of the updated version of Maniac also starring
America Olivo, Liane Balaban and
Nora Arnezeder, attracting a large crowd and some of the film's cast.
Wood said they had to map out how each scene was covered within the context of the POV nature and called it a ‘puzzle.'
It was extremely experimental and it seemed like a very interesting take on the original, because I'm not particularly a huge fan of remakes.
In the film,Wood's serial killer works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. ‘He finds victims on the Internet and stalks them like prey, all the while suffering from hallucinations that throw him back into the past, when he was abused by his own mother. In his twisted mind, he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill.'
The film is currently touring the festival circuit. Head inside for the trailer.
