Firefly, G.I. Joe
Ray Stevenson to Play Villain in G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes
I hope you know Ray Stevenson, a guy who portrayed Frank Castle in The Punisher and recently appeared in the film adaptation of Marvel Comics' Thor, in the role of Volstagg. Well, Stevenson was cast as villain Firefly for G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes.
Cobra contract killer and saboteur hit Hasbro's toy line and the first Marvel Comics G.I. Joe series in 1984. He was trained by ninja and originally engaged by Cobra Commander to murder Snake Eyes. Firefly previously tried to work with Zartan to manage this, but things went wrong and his master ended up with a fatal shot, with Storm Shadow blamed for killing.
Firefly, also proficient in all NATO and Warsaw Pact explosives, was often sent on a solo mission by Cobra. At the end of the first movie, Cobra's leaders Destro and Cobra Commander are locked up in high-security jail. The Baroness (Sienna Miller) sometimes considered the third in command of the existing villainous cast, was left in the care of Joes and thought reformed at the film's end.
But, Eccleston, Gordon-Levitt and Miller will not take part in new Cobra Strikes.
Up to now the only confirmed returning Cobra cast member is Storm Shadow (Byung-Hun Lee).
Also, Channing Tatum as Duke and Ray Park as Snake Eyes have been confirmed as returning Joe cast members. They'll be joined by five of newcomers including Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye, Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, DJ Cotrona as Flint, Elodie Yung as Jinx and RZA as The Blind Master.
Stevenson will also appear later this year in Summit Entertainment's The Three Musketeers as Porthos.
G.I. Joe 2 starts shooting later this summer in Louisiana and will hit theaters on March 29th, 2013.
