Hope you're all excited about ABC's upcoming
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, because we have some great news to share. Great – if you're fans of “a psychedelic romance”, as creators of the show
Edward Kitsis and
Adam Horowitz revealed. And here's what they promise – a familiar fairy tale, but an entirely different story. Head inside to find more details…
We will first remind you that an upcoming fantasy-drama series is based on Lewis Carroll's fairytale classic, but with a different twist from the other adaptations. It takes place in the same universe as “Once Upon a Time” in present-day Wonderland, with flashbacks to pre-Curse Wonderland.
According to Kitsis:
“What you saw will be the first half [of the full pilot] and we'll actually go to Wonderland. We'll get a sense of Alice's return [to Wonderland] and you're going to meet Jafar and you're going to get more of the Red Queen and more of a sense of the world.”
In case you forgot, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland has pretty interesting cast on boar which includes
Sophie Lowe as Alice,
Michael Socha as Knave of Hearts,
Peter Gadiot as Cyrus,
Emma Rigby as The Red Queen and
John Lithgow as the voice of the White Rabbit.
Another good thing is that the co-creator of the show, Adam Horowitz, also said their intention is to produce a “complete tale with a beginning, middle and end” and “is meant to be a close-ended story.”
He also added that the project exists in a Once universe but stands on its own. In other words – new viewers can come right in.
For those who may have missed the official synopsis for the upcoming show:
“In Victorian England, the young and beautiful Alice tells a tale of a strange new land that exists on the other side of a rabbit hole. An invisible cat, a hookah smoking caterpillar and playing cards that talk are just some of the fantastic things she's seen during this impossible adventure. Surely this troubled girl must be insane and her doctors aim to cure her with a treatment that will make her forget everything. Alice seems ready to put it all behind her, especially the painful memory of the genie she fell in love with and lost forever—the handsome and mysterious Cyrus. But deep down Alice knows this world is real and just in the nick of time, the sardonic Knave of Hearts and the irrepressible White Rabbit arrive to save her from a doomed fate. Together, the trio will take a tumble down the rabbit hole to this Wonderland where nothing is impossible.”
Directed by
Ralph Hemecker, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland premieres Oct. 10 on ABC.
As usual – we'll keep an eye on it, so make sure you stay tuned!
