Mystery White Boy is the second film about Jeff Buckley with
Gemma Arterton in talks to join the project, which has also nabbed
Olivia Thirlby and
Harry Treadaway.
Jake Scott (Welcome to the Rileys) is directing the upcoming drama, which has been adapted by
Ryan Jaffe from David Browne's book ‘Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley.'
The tragically short lives of cult musicians Tim and Jeff Buckley — a father and son who barely knew each other — is a story told in revealing detail by music critic David Browne in ‘Dream Brother.'
Reeve Carney (The Tempest) has already been tapped to play the late musician, who drowned accidentally in 1997 at the age of 30. Treadaway is being attached to play Buckley's drummer, Matt Johnson, the role similar to his previous music biopic, Control.
A former Bond girl, Arterton would play the character of partying woman in Buckley's life, whilst Thirlby wouldl represent the more responsible side to Buckley's relationships.
Mystery White Boy is the only one to have exclusive rights to Buckley's music and personal archives; Jeff's album ‘Grace' and the posthumously released ‘Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk' could be featured.
The film is expected to shoot in New York and Memphis later this year.
