Summit Entertainment has released a new theatrical trailer for
Hercules: The Legend Begins, one of two films featuring the mythological character that will hit theaters next year.
The other is a larger-budget take on Hercules, starring
Dwayne Johnson.
Directed by
Renny Harlin, this film stars
Kellan Lutz as the titular demigod and son of Zeus,
Gaia Weiss as Hebe, the Princess of Crete, along with
Scott Adkins as King Amphitryon,
Liam McIntyre as Sotiris,
Johnathon Schaech as Tarak,
Roxanne McKee as Alcmene,
Liam Garrigan as Iphicles,
Rade Serbedzija as Chiron and
Luke Newberry as Agamemnon.
Daniel Gliat wrote the screenplay to stick close to the actual writings about the character, and tell the origin story about how Hercules became a hero.
The slick-looking fantasy epic is slated to open 2D and 3D in theaters on January 10th, 2014.
Check out the trailer which sells a flick in the vein of
Gladiator rather than a
300.

Synopsis:
In Ancient Greece 1200 B.C., a queen succumbs to the lust of Zeus to bear a son promised to overthrow the tyrannical rule of the king and restore peace to a land in hardship. But this prince, Hercules, knows nothing of his real identity or his destiny. He desires only one thing: the love of Hebe, Princess of Crete, who has been promised to his own brother. When Hercules learns of his greater purpose, he must choose: to flee with his true love or to fulfill his destiny and become the true hero of his time. The story behind one of the greatest myths is revealed in this action-packed epic – a tale of love, sacrifice and the strength of the human spirit.
