Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel is coming, we already know that
Dwayne Johnson will star in it, and it's good to finally hear some updates about the whole thing!
Today we're here to announce that legendary
Michael Caine is in final negotiations to join the cast of the sequel titled
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island as well!
Movie will be directed by
Brad Peyton (who was in charge for Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore) and already has
Josh Hutcherson reprising his role from the first film (explorer Sean Anderson), together with Johnson, who will play his mom's boyfriend, on a quest to find the mysterious and monster-filled island and his missing grandfather.
Some reports note that “it's not a cameo and that the role will see the actor in action mode, engaging in several chase sequences, including one involving giant bees.”
So, you already guess that Caine will play the grandfather.
We all know that
Brendan Fraser starred in the 2008 film, but passed on the sequel because of a scheduling conflict.
Let us just remind you that the original 1959 version of Journey to the Center of the Earth starred James Mason and Pat Boone and earned Oscar nominations for best art direction, best effects and best sound.
This time, the movie will be shot in
3D, and filming will take place in North Carolina and Hawaii.
Filming starts in late October, with the targeted release date September 23rd, 2011.
