Hope you're ready for a brand new
Bonnie and Clyde film, 'cause we've just learned that
Leanne Welham is set to write and direct
Will and Zoe, an adaptation of
Kristin Halbrook‘s novel titled
Nobody But Us. The novel centers on two teenagers (read: desperately in love teenagers) on the run who make all the wrong choices in order to escape their circumstances. Yep, definitely sounds familiar…
So, at this moment, thanks to
Variety, we know that Welham (short film director who stands behind titles like
Novio and
Nocturne) will both write and direct the feature version of a modernized update on 1967′s iconic
Bonnie and Clyde.
As we mentioned at the beginning,
Kristin Halbrook's debut novel follows two wounded teens named Will and Zoe who run away from their “messed up” lives in the hopes of starting new lives together.
They're young. They're in love. They're on the run. And here's the rest of the description:
Zoe wants to save Will as much as Will wants to save Zoe. When Will turns eighteen, they decide to run away together. But they never expected their escape to be so fraught with danger. When the whole world is after you, sometimes it seems like you can't run fast enough. Told in alternating perspectives from Will and Zoe, the novel will show us how having love doesn't always mean that you get a happy ending.
Haven Entertainment partners Rachel Miller and Matt Perniciaro will be producing, while Jesse Hara, Kevin Mann and Pouya Shahbazian of
New Leaf Literary will exec produce.
We'll keep an eye on this adaptation, make sure you stay tuned!
