James Franco‘s
As I Lay Dying is playing in competition for the Prix
Un Certain Regard at Cannes next month, which is the most pretentious opening any of his movies have received.

William Faulkner‘s novel has emerged courtesy of
EW.
Faulkner said that he wrote the novel in six weeks and that he did not change a word of it, but Franco has been working hard to get it right. Franco has spent the last few years perfecting his approach to adapting one of Faulkner's crowning achievements due to the 59 chapters and more than 15 narrators.
As I Lay Dying follows the story of ‘the death of Addie Bundren and her Mississippi family's quest and motivations—noble or selfish—to honor her wish to be buried in the town of Jefferson.'
The cast include Franco,
Jim Parrack, Danny McBride, Ahna O'Reilly, Tim Blake Nelson, Logan Marshall-Green and the
Child Of God's star,
Scott Haze.
The film currently has no distribution partner.
