It's official:
Mary Elizabeth Winstead has joined the cast of
Michael Cuesta‘s upcoming thriler
Kill The Messenger. We already had a little chat about this project, so I'm sure you remember that some seriously good cast is on board for the whole thing, and (so far) includes
Jeremy Renner,
Paz Vega and
Rosemarie DeWitt.
As we previously reported, Cuesta directs the pic from a script written by
Peter Landesman, which will tell us the true story of a
San Jose Mercury News reporter Gary Webb who:
…through his reporting exposed the CIA's involvement in helping Nicaragua's Contra rebels import cocaine into California during the 1980s. The agency then tried to discredit him, which ultimately led to his “committing suicide,” though with two bullets to his head.
Renner is already set to star as Webb, DeWitt is set to play the female lead (still no details about her character), while Vega will play the girlfriend of a wealthy dealer who is in jail and hopes that Webb can get him out.
As for Winstead, she jumps in to play the editor of the
San Jose Mercury News, named Dawn Garcia.
Let us also mention that, beside the above mentioned names, the movie will also star
Barry Pepper as federal prosecutor Russell Dodson, who is tasked with keeping a lid on the agency's connection to the massive influx of cocaine into the U.S. by Nicaraguan contras.
As usual – with every new update on this thriller we'll be back, so make sure you stay tuned!
