Kevin Bacon in Final Talks for R.I.P.D. Villain
Peter M. Lenkov is a film scribe and producer as well as being an occasional writer of comic books for Dark Horse – best known for his work on comics R.I.P.D. and Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained. This time I will focus on R.I.P.D. that follows a cop named Nick Cruz, played by Ryan Reynolds who was killed in the line of duty and who accepts a deal with the R.I.P.D. to serve a hundred years of service in exchange for a chance to figure out who it was that killed him. Well, the guy that murders Reynolds is probably the villain that Kevin Bacon is being eyed for.
We have learned Bacon is ready to make things difficult for the heroes such as Ryan Reynolds and Academy Award-Winner Jeff Bridges. Vet Bacon was the local drug dealer Jacques in Super; the supervillain Sebastian Hiram Shaw in X-Men: First Class and the alfa male co-worker of Julianne Moore in this weekend's Crazy, Stupid, Love. By the way, Bridges portrays a long dead gunslinger who patrols the afterlife with his partner embodied in Raynolds.
Lenkov's graphic novel is adapted from page to screen thanks to Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi who have both paired on Clash Of The Titans.
Robert Schwentke (Red, Flightplan) is in the director's chair and Jodie Foster is still only rumored for a part.
As for Bacon, he has won Golden Globe along Screen Actors Guild Awards, was nominated for an Emmy Award, and was named by The Guardian as one of the best actors never to have received an Academy Award nomination – playing villains, this time, he might succeed.
Since R.I.P.D. doesn't hit theaters until June 28th, 2013 Universal has plenty of time to announce when it will shoot.
