Kate Winslet is in talks to join
Neil Burger‘s upcoming project titled
Divergent, an adaptation of
Veronica Roth‘s novel of the same name. If negotiations work out, she will join previously announced
Shailene Woodley, who is already set to star as the lead – character named Beatrice Prior. Check out the rest of this report to find more details about the whole thing…
So, at this moment we know that
Neil Burger will direct
Divergent from a script he co-wrote together with
Evan Daugherty.
Vanessa Taylor is currently rewriting the script which, according to
Variety, has a futuristic,
Hunger Games-like teen-on-teen violence setting and follows 16-year-old Beatrice Prior.
Or, if you prefer more details about the whole thing:
Divergent is set in a future where America is divided into five ideological factions to stabilize society and uphold peace, every citizen must choose a permanent faction at age 16 – either their own or another. Struggling to survive her initiation into the most aggressive and physically demanding of the factions, Beatrice Prior must uncover her true hidden strengths and risk her family, her new found love, and her very own life to defuse a mysterious conspiracy which could change the balance of power forever.
As for
Kate Winslet – it is still unknown what part she would play in the film.
On the other hand, Summit is also still trying to find its male lead to pair with Woodley, and the studio recently tested
Lucas Till,
Alex Pettyfer and
Jeremy Irvine.
Divergent is planned to hit theaters on March 21st, 2014.
We'll keep an eye on this project – stay tuned for more updates!
