Actor and 747 pilot
John Travolta has been reportedly attached to
The Toxic Avenger, the
Steve Pink-directed remake of the Troma classic comedy about a mutated superhero and it's not an early April Fool's joke.
According to industry tracking website
It's On The Grid Travolta is indeed attached to the remake of
Lloyd Kaufman's Toxic Avenger, which Pink will write with
Daniel C. Mitchell.
Here's the original 1986 synopsis:
This is the story of Melvin, the Tromaville Health Club mop boy, who inadvertently and naively trusts the hedonistic, contemptuous and vain health club members, to the point of accidentally ending up in a vat of toxic waste. The devastating results then have a transmogrification effect, his alter ego is released, and the Toxic Avenger is born, to deadly and comical results. The local mop boy is now the local Superhero, the saviour of corruption, thuggish bullies and indifference. Troma classic with good make-up effects and stunts, a pleasant surprise indeed.
Deadline first reported Pink was directing the remake back in April 2010 and it sounds like he's still involved. However, it's not clear if Travolta is being lined up to play Toxie himself or yet another villain of some corporation.
Up to now the movie spawned 2 sequels, a kid's cartoon series and various comic book spin-offs. Stay tuned.
