I'm excited to re-conceive this iconic horror classic in a contemporary setting for a new generation of horror fans to enjoy. Our story picks up where the original left off. Both John Luessenhop and I intend to deliver a new chapter derived from Tobe Hooper's 1973 masterpiece with the goal of making it as horrifying as the original — in 3D!”The original Chainsaw is considered a landmark horror movie and was directed by Tobe Hooper. New Line and Platinum Dunes remade the movie in 2003 and made a prequel in 2006. As for Luessenhop, his resume isn't all that assuring – besides Takers, John has also directed several episodes of America's Most Wanted and HBO feature, Don't Look Back. Oh yes, I forgot to mention his short film, Tick…Tick…Tick… that featured at the Sundance Film Festival. The plan is to have the Massacre 3D film in theaters by 2013. John Luessenhop in Talks for TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D
It is widely believed to be a true story, because of the intro, but is not. The closest approach to it is that the contender, Leatherface, is loosely inspired by serial killer Ed Gein, who wore the skin of his victims.
Now, Takers helmer John Luessenhop is on board to direct Lionsgate's Texas Chainsaw 3D.
Production is already slated to begin in June and of course, Lionsgate will begin selling foreign rights at Cannes.
Carl Mazzocone, previous Twisted Pictures production president, is producing. Furthermore, Mazzocone ultimately secured an overall deal to make up to six future sequels.
