Well, Paramount and Skydance Productions are reportedly interested in getting
Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) to take over the director's chair from
J.J. Abrams as the favorite contender for the third installment of the
Star Trek film franchise.
The writer and director of the 2011 cult hit was among the many rumored names to be up for the gig. Several other rumors have included his frequent collaborator
Edgar Wright as well as
Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘
Rupert Wyatt and
Jon M. Chu, the director of
G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
Beside
The Adventures of Tintin, Cornish has also co-written the upcoming Marvel Studios movie
Ant-Man with the
Shaun of the Dead director Wright.
Alex Kurtzman and
Roberto Orci are writing this time around and they're hopeful for a summer 2014 start date shoot at a potential summer 2016 release.
Plot details haven't yet been revealed so far.
As for Cornish, he certainly knows how to combine action and humor effectively, which is an essential part of the rebooted version of
Star Trek franchise. He's already working with Paramount on the big screen adaptation of
Neal Stephenson‘s cyberpunk novel
Snow Crash, which he's prepping to present to the studio.
Does this choice make a lick of sense to you?
