The high-concept vampire tale? Another one? Please no! But wait, this time we have
The Grey helmer
Joe Carnahan interested in the whole thing, maybe that news deserves our attention after all? Yeah, I thought so.
Here's the thing then, Carnahan is apparently attached to both write and direct an adaptation of a graphic novel series created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, and titled
Undying Love. Sounds promising?
Described as a horror-action tale, Undying Love combines vampire mythology and Chinese folklore, and is set in modern day Hong Kong.
It centers on an ex-soldier John Sargent who has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: yeah, you already guess – she's a vampire! To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her. Another problem shows up: Mei was turned by one of the most powerful vampires in history…
Just in case this project already sounds familiar to you, I will remind you that
Alexandre Aja was previously attached to direct it. Carnahan, on the other hand, is currently busy with that “Death Wish” reboot, but he also sounds quite enthusiastic about this new adaptation. Here's what he had to say about it:
“It is a little out of my wheelhouse, taking place in China with mysticism and swordplay, but there is a lot of potential here.”
Let's hope it's true.
I'm sick and tired of vampires, but I promise I'll be back with every single update on Undying Love!
