Following reports from earlier this week stating that Warner Bros. was in talks with
Joe Wright (
Anna Karenina) to direct its untitled
Peter Pan project from the
Jason Fuchs (
Ice Age: Continental Drift) script, the first casting news for the film has landed now.
Javier Bardem has been reportedly offered the lead villain role of a pirate Captain Backbeard in the planned movie.
Fuchs' script has an orphan taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes the savior of the natives and leads a rebellion against evil pirates, but plot details are being kept under wraps.
Only time will tell why Bardem could play Blackbeard and not Hook as we originally thought. Captain Blackbeard is a real life historical figure who was killed during a bloody battle with the British navy at Ocracoke Inlet in 1718.
No official release date has yet been offered.
Meanwhile, Sony is developing
Pan with
Channing Tatum to star and
Joe Roth producing, while Disney is adapting the YA novel ‘
Peter and the Starcatchers', with
Gary Ross attached as director.
Bardem is next starring with Sean Penn in Pierre Morel's spy-actioner
The Gunman. Stay tuned.
