Jared Leto is back!
Not from Mars, he's finally returning to the big screen, and as you already see from our title – he will join an upcoming indie drama titled
The Dallas Buyer's Club. We previously reported that
Matthew McConaughey and
Jennifer Garner are also on board for the whole thing, and that
Jean-Marc Vallee will be in charge for the project which is based on a true
life-drama.
Vallee directs
The Dallas Buyer's Club from a script written by
Craig Borten and
Melisa Wallack and the film will tell us the true story of
Ron Woodroof, a Texas electrician who was diagnosed with AIDS.
McConaughey will play Woodroof, an AIDS patient who contracts the disease in 1986 and survives six years by illegally smuggling medicine into the U.S.
As for Leto, he comes on board (instead of a previously rumored
Gael Garcia Bernal) to play a fellow AIDS patient who meets Woodroof in the hospital. Leto's character is described as
a flamboyant cross-dresser with HIV.
Filming on
The Dallas Buyer's Club starts next week in New Orleans.
