Ryan K. Fleck, best known for directing and writing the Half Nelson and It's Kind of a Funny Story is also known for his collaborations with fellow cinematographer
Anna Boden.
The multihyphenate duo have a new, exciting project in the works, gambling drama
Mississippi Grind from a screenplay they penned and they have enlisted
Jake Gyllenhaal for a lead role.
The film centers on two aging gambling addicts enabling each other on a road trip through the south; Gyllenhaal will play the younger drifter, while the elder ‘a plum role for Hollywood's 40-something set' — has yet to be cast.
Gyllenhaal is no doubt being given an opportunity to shine in a hugely promising gambling/road trip/buddy film like Ryan Gosling's performance in Half Nelson culminated in an Oscar nomination.
No production schedule has been released.
Gyllenhaal will next be seen in David Ayer's crime drama End of Watch and later in the psychological thriller, based on the José Saramago‘s novel The Double, wherein he plays a history professor obsessed with an actor, as the men are identical; Gyllenhaal will play both parts.
Stay tuned for Mississippi Grind.
