When you take into account the fact that the movie came out just shortly after the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut and opened with a sniper gunning down eight people in cold blood, it's no wonder that
Jack Reacher under-performed when it hit theaters in the U.S. back in December.
Despite mostly positive reviews, the film barely scraped $15 mil in its opening weekend, taking second place behind The Hobbit, which was in theaters for its second week. By the end of its run the movie only managed to make $79 million domesically, which isn't considered great when you have in mind the $60 million production budget.
But overseas Jack Reacher has gone for a little surprise. In international markets, the movie has actually managed to make nearly $125 million, pushing its total over $200 million, but these numbers also mean that we might be getting a sequel.
According to
Deadline, now that the franchise has been shown to have appeal in international markets, there are on-going discussions about a possible follow-up. It sounds as though things are still at a very early stage, but this is quite the opposite situation than from back in mid-January, when it sounded as though the chances of a part two were less than zero.
Presumably
Tom Cruise would be back to star, but who knows if he would have the behind-the-camera team from the first return as well.

I like the books and was disappointed when i heard cruise was reacher. considering jack reacher is 6’5″ 260 lbs. but over all i thought the movie had some good spots. although there was a lot of cuts if you’ve read the book. it could have been longer and more detailed, and closer to the layout of the book. like jeb lived in the country, and the last soot out happened in the country at a farm house. there was a few changes that i did not like. but i would like to see more reacher movies. all of the books i have read are great and hard to put down. i’d like to see tripwire, the hard way, 61 hours, or worth dying for. these are all awesome novels.
