Inherent Vice filming is officially underway in Los Angeles and the first set photos showing
Joaquin Phoenix in full character and costume as Larry ‘Doc' Sportello, and director's long-time partner
Maya Rudolph also in full character and costume.
A role of very pregnant Rudolph has not been confirmed, but it looks to be a rather minor one.
Based on
Thomas Pynchon‘s novel of the same name, the story follows 1960s pothead/private detective P.I. Larry ‘Doc' Sportello (Phoenix) who is hired by an ex-girlfriend to investigate the disappearance of her wealthy lover.
The rest of the cast also includes
Katherine Waterston, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Martin Short, Jena Malone, Kevin J. O'Connor, and
possibly Sean Penn with Warner Bros. set to release the film next year.
