Last year we had a little
chat about
Pierre Morel‘s upcoming
The Gunman movie (previously titled
Prone Gunman), so I'm sure you know that
Sean Penn and
Javier Bardem are already set to star in the whole thing. Well, guess what, now comes the word that
Idris Elba is in some serious talks to join the action thriller as well! If negotiations with Elba work out – he will come on board to play a mysterious operative named Dupont.
As we previously reported, Morel will direct the whole thing from a script written by
Pete Travis (based on
Jean-Patrick Manchette‘s novel) which revolves around Penn's character – an international operative named Martin Terrier.
Betrayed by the organization he works for, Martin starts a game of cat and mouse across Europe.
Or, if you prefer the official synopsis for the whole thing:
Martin Terrier is a hired killer who wants out of the game, so he can settle down and marry his childhood sweetheart. After all, that's why he took up this profession! But the Organization won't let him go: they have other plans. Once again, the gunman must assume the prone shooting position. A tour de force, this violent tale shatters as many illusions about life and politics as bodies.
As we mentioned at the beginning, Elba should come on board to portray another mysterious operative named Dupont.
Joel Silver, Andrew Rona and Steve Richards will produce the project and shooting is slated to begin in Barcelona and other European locales later this month.
We'll keep an eye on it, make sure you stay tuned!
