From the Red Queen to the fairy godmother! We've just learned that Helena Bonham Carter is officialy on board for Disney's upcoming live-action version of Cinderella, which will be directed by Kenneth Branagh. In other words, Alice in Wonderland star will have to protect Lily James from Cate Blanchett? Sounds interesting…
As we previously reported, Branagh is set to direct the whole thing from a script written by Aline Brosh McKenna and Chris Weitz, which will give us a brand new look at one of the most popular Disney princess who always believes that her dreams will help her through anything.
So far we have Lily James in the title role, Cate Blanchett as her wicked stepmother, Richard Madden as the prince, and Sophie McShera and Holliday Granger as Cinderella's evil stepsisters.
As for Bonham Carter and her involvemet in the whole thing, the good news is that, this time, the fairy godmother will be getting more screen time, and that the character will be disguised as an old beggar who watches over Cinderella before revealing herself as the magical being she truly is.
Anyway, Cinderella starts shooting this fall in London, so I guess we'll soon have more updates to share. Make sure you stay tuned!
