Hands Of Stone is an upcoming
Roberto Duran biopic which comes from writer/director
Jonathan Jakubowicz. But what definitely sounds awesome is that
Robert De Niro and
Edgar Ramirez are both set to star in this project! Things are pretty clear – Ramirez is on board to play Panamanian boxer and De Niro will play his trainer Ray Arcel.
So, written and directed by Jakubowicz,
Hands Of Stone is based on the life of boxing champ
Robert Duran, and the movie will focuse on how each man changed the life of the other.
According to
Deadline, the story is set during boxing's Golden Era, when:
…Duran was among top notch fighters including Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Hector Camacho, Vinny Pazienza. Duran fought them all and won 103 of his 119 fights. The focus will be on the Panamanian boxer's incredible brawls with Leonard, culminating in an inexplicable ending of the famous fight where Duran quit in the ring and cried “No mas,” on a night when Leonard was having his way.
Definitely sounds promising, and director Jakubowicz is more than ready to bring the well-known story to the big screen. He revealed:
The infamous “No Mas” fight is the biggest enigma in the history of boxing. This movie will answer the enigma, with the best talent any director can possibly dream.
Jakubowicz will also produce with
Jay Wiesleder.
