Oscar-nominated John C. Reilly has reportedly been offered the role of Rhomann Dey in James Gunn‘s 2014 cosmic Marvel team-up movie, Guardians of the Galaxy.
Rhomann Dey, described as ‘the Agent Coulson of the ‘Guardians' is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and the middleman between the secret agency and the cosmic team. In the Marvel comic books, Dey was first introduced in the mid-70s as the Xandarian leader of the Nova Corps, rather than a human agent.
Should Reilly actually sign on he will join previously reported cast members such as Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, who is also known as Peter Quill; Zoe Saldana who should play Gamora (whose entire race was wiped out by Thanos when she was just an infant); Drax, who will be played by Dave Batista in the film (actually started life as a saxophone player named Art); The Walking Dead star Michael Rooker has reportedly joined Guardians in the role of Yondu, while English actress Ophelia Lovibond's character in the James Gunn-directed adaptation will be ‘an aide to a being called The Collector.' And, finally, rumors emerged that Lee Pace would play the villain The Controller or Ronan the Accuse.
Marvel is still looking at names like Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman, and Ken Watanabe for another role in Guardians as well, playing a peer agent to help Relly out along the way.
Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1st, 2014 with production scheduled to start soon in England.
Stay tuned.
