We're nearing the end of
Godzilla scripting updates as former The Walking Dead show-runner
Frank Darabont will be doing the final rewrite of the screenplay for the reboot.
The script was previously written by
Max Borenstein (Seventh Son) with
David S. Goyer receiving screen story credit.
Meanwhile, producers
Dan Lin and
Roy Lee (The Grudge, The Ring) had departed the project (Sherlock Holmes, Terminator) fighting over creative and financial differences on the film. The most recent update says
Mary Parent (Pacific Rim) is about done with a deal to come aboard on the producer roster.
As for the actors,
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has already passed on the project, leaving
Henry Cavill, Scoot McNairy (Argo), and
Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class) as the remaining candidates.
No doubt, Legendary Pictures is working on a reboot to Godzilla, which won't be a re-hash of the 1998 version featuring
Matthew Broderick, but rather the new film will be a remake of Ishirô Honda 1954 classic.
Gareth Edwards (Monsters) will direct the reboot, which opens in theaters on May 16th, 2014 with filming expected to begin in March.
