Remember the chaos of Tess and Anna swapping bodies in Freaky Friday? Well, buckle up, because Disney's Freakier Friday is here to double the fun. The trailer just dropped, and it's a nostalgic rollercoaster, reuniting Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in their iconic mother-daughter roles. But this time, Anna's daughter (played by Julia Butters) gets in on the action, making it a three-generation body-swapping bonanza.
Set for release on August 8, 2025, Freakier Friday will go head-to-head with Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another. Talk about a cinematic showdown! The sequel picks up 20 years after the original, with Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) navigating a new chapter of their lives. Anna is now a mom herself, and her daughter's involvement adds a fresh twist to the classic formula.

The ensemble cast is stacked, with Julia Butters (of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood fame), Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Mark Harmon, and Chad Michael Murray rounding out the roster. But let's be real—the real draw here is Curtis and Lohan. Curtis, fresh off her Oscar win for Everything Everywhere All at Once, brings her signature wit and charm, while Lohan, after a decade-long hiatus from major films, is making a triumphant return.
Lohan's comeback has been a slow burn, starting with Netflix's Falling for Christmas in 2022. While her recent rom-coms have been criticized for being formulaic, they've been wildly successful, proving that her star power hasn't dimmed. Freakier Friday feels like the perfect vehicle for her return to the big screen, blending nostalgia with a modern twist.
The 2003 original was a harmless, feel-good comedy that didn't try to reinvent the wheel. It was a well-executed trifle, relying on the chemistry between Curtis and Lohan to carry the film. The sequel seems to follow a similar blueprint, but with the added layer of generational humor. Will it work? That depends on how well the script balances nostalgia with fresh ideas.

One thing's for sure: Disney is banking on the power of nostalgia. With reboots and sequels dominating the box office, Freakier Friday is poised to tap into that sweet spot of millennial nostalgia while appealing to a new generation of viewers.
Freakier Friday has all the ingredients for a hit: a beloved cast, a proven formula, and a release date that guarantees buzz. But will it live up to the original? That's the million-dollar question. The trailer promises laughs, heart, and a healthy dose of chaos, but only time will tell if it can recapture the magic of 2003.
What do you think? Are you excited to see Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan back in action, or is this sequel one body-swap too many? Let us know in the comments!
I think this movie is perfect in every which way for those of us who truly loved and enjoyed the original 2003 FREAKY FRIDAY. This new 2025 movie “FREAKIER FRIDAY”, to be honest, whether it flys high with critics and the general audience, or flops down, it, all the same, will be a delicious, spicy additive to the original for us who are die-hard fans of the original film. I must add that, for me, so much of the original 2003 F.F. was very humorous, throughout, no dull moments, and the funniest line for me was Curtis’s “Ohh! I look like the Crypt Keeper!”, and, in this newest movie trailer of 2025’s F.F., Curtis’s new line at the mirror NAILS IT AGAIN. So, I say BRING. IT. ON.
