The Grey and Warrior star
Frank Grillo has revealed that he's in the midst of testing for the ‘badass' character, while previous speculation said that he was actually testing to play
Crossbones, a ruthless mercenary who has operated as the right-hand man of the Red Skull.
He tweeted on Monday,
See Ya LA. It was a good trip. Marvel was a lot of fun. Be cool if it works out. #CaptainAmerica.
Grillo also added in a following tweet, which has since been deleted,
WOW. Badass fans that Marvel has. Fierce muthas. #bones.
With production scheduled to start next spring,
Chris Evans is back as Cap,
Sebastian Stan as the titular James Buchanan ‘Bucky' Barnes turned The Winter Soldier,
Scarlett Johansson will reprise her role as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent the Black Widow,
Anthony Mackie will appear as The Falcon and
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is rumored for the female lead.
Previous reports had
Josh Holloway (Lost) and
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) also on Marvel's radar for the supervillain role of Crossbones, who is also known as Brock Rumlow. However, Crossbone's appearance in the 2014 sequel is still far from confirmed.
As for Grillo, he will be next seen in Zero Dark Thirty and Gangster Squad.
Directed by
Joe and
Anthony Russo,
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is slated to open April 4th, 2014.
