Elegant redhead
Nicole Kidman, a presenter at last night's Academy Awards ceremony, gets her first official look in
Grace of Monaco, the film directed by
La Vie En Rose helmer
Olivier Dahan.
With three Oscar nominations and one win under her belt, Kidman is set to play the Hollywood legend turned princess,
Grace Kelly. Actually, The Weinstein Company is
picking up the rights to the film set in 1962, when the actress/royalty maneuvered behind the scenes to save Monaco from being swallowed up by France.
The Weinsteins are banking big on this drama – which chronicles how Princess Grace helped her husband, Prince Rainier III to settle a dispute between her country and France's Charles De Gaulle over tax laws in the 1960s – paying a reported $4 million for the rights with a P&A commitment worth $10 million for a minimum 800 screen run.
From the script penned by
Arash Amel, joining Kidman in the cast ensemble are
Tim Roth as Monaco's Prince, along with
Paz Vega, Parker Posey, Milo Ventimiglia, Derek Jacobi and
Frank Langella among others.
Kelly's children, Prince Albert Of Monaco, and his sisters, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie, have described the film as ‘pointlessly glamorized,' ‘inaccurate' and 'pure fiction', and have made it clear that they played no part in the project. Princess Grace of Monaco died in a car accident in 1985 at the age of 52.
The film is looking at a worldwide release starting Christmas 2013, just in time for next year's awards season.
We
already shared some photos from the whole thing, but just look at this cake – actress looks impeccably gorgeous in an elegant sleeveless prom dress with a distinctive red-and-white royal sash and an absolutely amazing diamond necklace and tiara.
