Today we have two new concept art from John Carter, via interview with director Andrew Stanton over at the Hero Complex.
John Carter is based on the first novel in Burrough's classic 11-volume Barsoom series, A Princess of Mars, which was first published in 1912.
The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
Additional cast includes James Purefoy as Kantos Kan, Samantha Morton as Sola, Dominic West as Sab Than, Thomas Haden Church as Tal Hajus, and Polly Walker as Sarkoja. Ciarán Hinds and Bryan Cranston are also listed as cast members, but their roles have not yet been revealed.
A sweeping action-adventure will open in U.S. cinemas on March 9, 2012.
