The first video clip from the Steve Jobs biopic JOBS has been released online, prior to the Friday debut at Sundance.
Based solely on this clip, which features Jobs (Ashton Kutcher) and Steve Wozniak (Josh Gad) in the HP parking garage, the film looks interesting. Kucher does have a wider face than Jobs, but he has worked hard on the timbre of voice and I'm sure he's spent many hours studying Jobs' habits/mannerisms/quirks.
However, I wonder whether Kutcher will be able to channel moodiness and obsessive passion that the Apple co-founder embodied.
JOBS will reportedly cover the major moments and defining characters that influenced man's life from 1971 to 2000, just before the introduction of the iPod.
In the clip, Jobs (played by Ashton Kutcher) is raving about the operating system that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak (played by Josh Gad) created. While Jobs is certain that this will become a ubiquitous product for mass consumption, Wozniak needs convincing.
It's heart-touching to hear Wozniak suggest: ‘Nobody wants to buy a computer.'
Jobs replies:
How does somebody know what they want if they've never even seen it?
Directed by Joshua Michael Stern and written by Matthew Whitely, JOBS opening in theaters on April 19th, 2013 and co-starring Dermot Mulroney, Lukas Haas, J.K. Simmons and Matthew Modine.
