Spanish filmmaker
Enrique Urbizu (man responsible for
No Rest for the Wicked) is all of the sudden attached to direct a project titled
Silver Or Lead for Relativity Media! The good thing is that we’re actually talking about
the true story behind the manhunt for cocaine kingpin
Pablo Escobar, and that some seriously good team stands behind the whole thing. But, more about that in the rest of this report…
So, at this moment we know that Urbizu will direct the movie from a script written by
Piers Ashworth which he developed from an original draft by
Michael Kane.
Source material for the film is provided by author
Simon Strong‘s award-winning book
Whitewash: Pablo Escobar and the Cocaine Wars and the whole thing will center on the personal war between Escobar and General Hugo Martinez, whose life rights were also acquired by Relativity.
Based on true events, this thrilling, epic action drama tells the story of the ruthless, charismatic Pablo Escobar and the man who risked it all to try to bring him to justice. You could accept a bribe, or forever wear a target on your back. This is the choice that General Hugo Martinez faces when he refuses the world’s most controversial and notorious drug lord, Pablo Escobar, and his six million dollar ‘request’ for Martinez to call off his relentless pursuit.
Mark Canton,
Donald Kushner and
Leigh Ann Burton will produce the film alongside Relativity’s CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and President Tucker Tooley while David Hopwood is on board as co-producer.
Sounds promising, make sure you stay tuned for more!
