The Lord of the Rings star
Elijah Wood is set to produce and possibly star in the horror movie
Cooties.
Cooties is written by Saw writer and executive producer
Leigh Whannell with
Ian Brennan, writer and co-creator of Fox's Glee.
Music video director
Ace Norton has helming duties for the new film, which marks his feature directorial debut and finds a mysterious virus striking a school and turning the kids into a swarm of savages, with an ‘unlikely' hero helping the teachers fight back.
Cooties is being produced by Paranormal Activity producer
Steven Schneider and Wood together with partners Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller, under his new horror film production company, The Woodshed.
The camera will whir and wind in April of 2013.
Whannell said:
My friend Ian Brennan and I wanted to write a film about one of life's most universal experiences – hatred for precocious, adorable children. And so we started work on ‘Cooties,' a film about a virus that turns school children into monsters and therefore makes it okay to beat them up with hockey sticks,”
Wood is also the star of the upcoming IFC's Maniac remake, opening in 2013.
