Legendary Lt Frank Drebin is coming back withEd Helms on board to now take on the role previously portrayed by straight-faced Leslie Nielsen with absolute comedic genius. That's right, The Naked Gun series is back to the big screen with Night at the Museum and Reno 911! scribes Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant penning the script.
Based on the tragically short-lived cop spoof ‘Police Squad!‘ in which Nielsen also starred, the trilogy of The Naked Gun film spin-offs was released from 1988 through to 1994, including The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear and The Naked Gun 33 /3: The Final Insult.
Paramount had initially planned on a fourth film in franchise, straight to video, in 2009.
Helms has become the regularly sought out for classic comedy reboots since co-star of NBC's ‘The Office‘ and three Hangover films was originally set to topline New Line's reboot of the ‘Vacation‘ series of films starring Chevy Chase.
