Helpfully to internet rumor,
Ed Helms, emotionally-frazzled Stu in the comedic buddy film The Hangover, is definitely in talks to star in a reboot of the
Vacation comedy franchise, which will shoot after production on The Hangover 3 ends.
John Francis Daley and
Jonathan Goldstein (Horrible Bosses) who will make their directorial debuts on Vacation want The Office star in the role of Rusty Griswold, the kid from the original films, who in the new movie will be all grown up. Daley and Goldstein will direct from the script they penned.
Rusty was first played in Vacation by Anthony Michael Hall. No word yet on whether Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo will return for the film.
The franchise continued with European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989) and Vegas Vacation (1997); the new movie will reportedly follow a grown-up Griswold who decides to take his own wife and kids on a road trip to Wally World before it closes forever.
