Ok, it's confirmed now, director
Doug Liman, best known from titles like
The Bourne Identity and
Jumper is officially on board to direct
All You Need Is Kill, project based on the 2004 sci-fi novel by
Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
Dante Harper is in charge for adapting the story that will follow:
“…a soldier pressed into battle against a superior alien species, gets killed in action, and relives his last day alive over and over.
Eventually, he sees things change, he becomes a better warrior and discovers hints that might be the key to altering the outcome.”
And, if you're interested in even more details, here's a description of Sakurazaka's novel: “There's one thing worse than dying. It's coming back to do it again and again…
When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again.
On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the Bitch of War. Is the Bitch the key to Keiji's escape, or to his final death?”
Sounds great, so no wonder Liman already looks very excited about the whole thing:
“It's an amazing script. It's a wholly original piece of writing. It delivers all of the whiz-bang satisfaction of a big Hollywood effects movie, but it does it in a completely original way.”
We can't wait for more
